Brier is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. It is bordered by Mountlake Terrace to the west, Lynnwood to the north, unincorporated Snohomish County to the east, and the King County line to the south. The population was 6,383 at the 2000 census, with an estimated 2005 population of 6,344. Brier is most notable for it's unique country amosphere and the independent spirit of it's inhabitants. Although only minutes from Downtown Seattle, it has resisted the suburban sprawl and frantic pace of development that has beset it's neighbors in recent years. It is not uncommon to see a local riding a horse in the city park which is a hub of constant community activity.

Brier!! Small Town Feel, Just 4 miles From Downtown SEATTLE!!

Walking through the crackling red fall colors in Brier City Park, one could easily forget that we’re actually in the ‘big city.’  Brier has the amazing capability of taking you to a small contry town, miles from anywhere, where people still smile and wave as you pass them in your car.

Exactly 4.2 miles away is the famous Pike Stree Market in the heart of downtown Seattle.  Pardon the sounding a bit Frazier Crane-ish, but this writer does love being so close to the big city, touring with out of town family and friends, the Space Needle the ‘SAM’ Seattle Art Museums, the Many Theaters…  There are so many great things about being in Metro Area, while in actuallity living in a small town within.

We took these photos while some family were visiting this last Read the rest of this entry »

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Tis the apple season, Brier is full of apple trees ripe and ready for the pickin. Apples are delicious, nutritious and fun to cook with. Check out this website for more info on Washington’s Wonderful Apples. http://www.bestapples.com/

MOM’S APPLE PIE (double crust apple pie)

Crust: 2 cups all purpose flour, 1 tsp salt, 2/3 cup shortening, 5-7 tablespoons COLD water. Mix shortening, salt, flour with a fork until crumbly. Add 5 tablespoons water and mix well, adding more water if too dry. Chill in fridge.

Apple Filling: 6-8 tart apples (Macintosh, Granny Smith). Pare, core and thinly slice, 3/4 – 1 cup sugar;  2 tablespoons  all purpose flour; 1/2 – - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; 2 tablespoons butter (or margarine).

Slice apples, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon in a bowl.  Add apple slices and mix well.  Take 1/2 of the pastry and roll flat with rolling pin. Line a 9″ or 10″ pie plate with the pastry. Fill with apple mixture. Dot with butter.  Take the remaining pastry dough and roll flat.  Place dough on top of apple pie mix. Crimp along edges creating a scalloped edging.  Take a knife and cut slits into top pastry for steam to escape. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 50 minutes or until crust is brown.

I made 14 jars of Apple Butter with the apples I picked. We are trying to cut down on sugar in our household, so I made it with a fraction of the sugar called for in the Fanny Farmer receipe.

A Fond Farewell

One of my best friends, Darien Chin, of neighboring Lynnwood, I met while we both attended Cypress Adventist School in Brier, some twenty – odd years ago. He’s the kind of guy you’re proud to say ‘I’ve know him since before he was big.’ Recently he told me he was published in USA Today, his website has recieved rave reviews from renouned photographers all over the world, and importantly his work has been purchased by large companies like Boeing, the WA State Tourism Board, and top photographic journals. The picture here is one he took in Discovery Park in Seattle last December, and he has generously offered to do some volunteer photography work for us here at Brierundressed.com (even though he now regularly commands a small fortune – per shot! I simply wouldn’t be able to afford him!) thank you Darien and best of luck on your fantastic journey! For a visual tour delight go to: http://fiveprime.org/hivemind/User/Darien%20Chin

Mountlake Terrace High School

Back to school brought happiness to parents and mixed emotions to students. Some students found summer jobs and others traveled. Most enjoyed the summer and played, worked and visited with friends. Several enjoyed outings to Brier Park, Martha Lake and the movies.

Now Mountlake Terrace High School is a flurry of activity with kids finding their lockers, seeing friends from last year and meeting new teachers.  The exciting part of back to school is the high school sports organizations.

The Cheer-leading group has been practicing for those upcoming games.

Follow this link for more information on the Hawks football season schedule.

Brier and Mountlake Terrace are very fortunate to have such a beautiful high school with wonderful teachers.

People don’t talk about it a lot. But finding the right real estate agent can be the difference between a happy, stress-free home buying or selling experience, and an unhappy, stressful experience.

First, you’ll want an agent ready and able to make a full-time commitment to you. I can and will do that.

Second, you’ll want an agent with the experience needed to know the local neighborhoods, schools, market conditions, ordinances, etc. With my years of experience in the local market – I have the expertise and track record of success you need.

Third, you’ll want an agent who embraces the convenience of technology without losing the personal touch. You’ll love the resources available on my website and the e-mail alerts that I send, but these will never replace the time I spend with you, serving as your personal guide through this exciting process.

With over 22 years in the Brier, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood Real Estate  market I assure you I have the knowledge and expertise to help you.

Let’s get together and talk about your home buying and/or selling plans. Call me at the office (425-771-2200) or on my cell phone (425-418-1215) or send me an e-mail (pamdorgan@yahoo.com), we’ll set-up a time that is easy and convenient to meet.

Fondly, Your Brier Real Estate Professional, Pamela R. (Pam) Dorgan

Brier Community Church in the Park by you.

Brier Community Church Pastor by you.

Annual Church in the Park by you.

Brier Park was blessed with the annual Brier Community Church group Sunday morning. The sound of the musicians and beautiful songs uplifted the community.  Worship, Merriment and Smells from the barbeque drew in park visitors.  I for one will be visiting the church to worship in the very near future. What a great way to introduce the Church to the community.  They are a good example of how to leave the park, it was neater than when they arrived. Follow this link for a map search of all Brier area churches.

MURDER of CROWS in Brier?!

August 20th, 2008

There is a very large Murder of Crows living in Brier, here is a little information on them.

Loud, rambunctious, and very intelligent, crows are either loved or hated by humans. Farmers consider crows pests that damage crops by eating their seedlings. Their black feathers made many people fear them throughout history, often associating them with death. Crows are in the corvidae family which includes ravens, magpies, and blue jays. The ubiquitous crow is loved by many for its sharp intelligence.

Where do they live?
Crows live all over the world, except for South America, New Zealand, and Antarctica.

What do they eat?
Crows are predators and scavengers, which means that they will eat practically anything. Their diet consists of various road-kill, insects, frogs, snakes, mice, corn, human fast food, even eggs and nestlings of other birds. An adult crow needs 11 ounces of food daily.

Social Environment
Crows are very social and have a tight-knit family. They roost in huge numbers (in the thousands) to protect themselves from enemies like red-tailed hawks, horned-owls, and raccoons. Crows also use 25 different calls. The distress call brings other crows to their aid, as crows will defend unrelated crows. Crow couples are thought to mate for life.

Critter Fact
A group of crows is called a “murder.” This name came about because a group of crows will sometimes kill a dying crow.

Did You Know?
Crows are considered the most intelligent of all birds. One example of their brainpower is their use of tools: They sharpen twigs to help them forage for insects and larvae. Also, crows have a remarkable memory and there are some studies indicating that crows can count.

Does anyone know where they roost?  Anyone, anyone?

Call me curious real estate agent, Pam.
